My Precip Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 4, 2026

My Precip helps people record and review daily precipitation reports. This policy explains what information the app collects, how it is used, and the choices you have.

Who We Are

This Privacy Policy applies to the My Precip iOS app. In this policy, "My Precip," "we," "us," and "our" refer to the operator of the My Precip app.

You can contact us at myprecipapp@gmail.com.

Information You Provide

My Precip collects information you choose to enter in the app, including:

Information Collected Automatically

When the app syncs with our backend, it may send technical information needed to operate the service, including a report identifier, device identifier used for rate limiting and abuse prevention, app version, build number, operating system version, device model, upload status, and basic diagnostic errors.

If you email support through the app, the draft email may include app version, operating system version, device model, account status, migration counts, and similar diagnostic information so we can troubleshoot account or record recovery issues. You choose whether to send that email.

Location, Camera, And Photos

My Precip asks for location permission only to help attach a city or exact spot to a precipitation report. The app does not need continuous background location access.

When you save a report, the app may store the city, state, latitude, longitude, and the location visibility you selected. Choosing Private marks the report location as private for display, but the report data may still be stored so the app can sync, restore, and manage your history.

Camera and photo library access are used only when you choose to attach a photo to a report. Photos can reveal personal information if the image includes people, places, addresses, or other identifying details.

Signed-Out And Account Use

You can record daily totals without signing in. Signed-out records are stored on your device as local guest history. When live sync is available, signed-out reports may also be uploaded under an anonymous label so they can appear in public app features such as Explore.

If you later sign in, register, or recover a legacy account, My Precip may associate your guest reports with your account so your history can sync across app launches, reinstalls, and devices.

How We Use Information

We use information collected through My Precip to:

Public Reports

Reports may be visible to other My Precip users in public features such as Explore, depending on the report, account state, moderation state, and visibility setting. Public report details may include the precipitation amount, type, date, reporter label, city/state or map position, comment, and photo.

Please do not include personal information in a report comment or photo unless you are comfortable with it being visible in the app.

Third-Party Services

We use third-party service providers to operate My Precip. These providers may process information as needed to provide their services to us, and we expect them to protect user data consistently with this policy and applicable law.

Advertising And Tracking Choices

My Precip may show ads through Google AdMob. Where required, the app asks for advertising consent and may ask for Apple's App Tracking Transparency permission before using the device advertising identifier for personalized ads.

You can change tracking permission in iOS Settings, reset or limit advertising identifiers using your device settings, and use any in-app consent controls shown for ads. If you decline tracking or ad consent, the app may still show non-personalized ads where allowed.

How We Share Information

We do not sell the precipitation reports you provide. We share information only as needed to operate the app, including with service providers listed above, when you choose to make report details public in the app, when required by law, to protect rights and safety, or with your consent.

Some privacy laws may treat certain advertising or measurement activity as "sharing" or "targeted advertising." You can use the advertising and tracking choices described above to control that activity where available.

Data Retention

We keep account and report data for as long as needed to provide My Precip, maintain your precipitation history, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, prevent abuse, and operate backups. Deleted reports or accounts may remain in backups or logs for a limited period before they are removed according to routine retention practices.

Anonymous records stored only on your device may be removed if you delete the app, erase app data, or delete those records in the app.

Your Choices And Requests

You can control many data choices directly in the app or through iOS Settings:

To request access to, correction of, export of, or deletion of your account or report data, email myprecipapp@gmail.com. We may need to verify your account before completing a request.

Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information in My Precip, including platform security controls and backend access controls. No app, network, or storage system can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

Children

My Precip is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.

International Users

My Precip is operated from the United States, and our service providers may process information in the United States and other countries. Privacy laws in those places may differ from the laws where you live.

Changes To This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date above. Material changes may also be communicated in the app or by other reasonable means.
